Branch pranced into the clearing. his white fur glowed in the morning sun, and shifted slightly with each paw step. Just returning from the dawn patrol, he felt alive and awake from romping in the cold wind. His breath huffed in clouds as he raced across the clearing to grab a plump woodpidgeon. He turned his head to see the new Beta, taking over from the Alphas absence. He swished his lengthy tail, and trotted over to say hello. "Morning Beta." He dropped the pidgeon, raising his head to stare at the second in command.

Beta yawned as he padded across the clearing to the opposite side. Beta found his usual spot and happily sat down, watching over the rest of the pack. Not long after, he noticed branch coming in his direction. After hearing branch's voice, Beta excitedly started moving his tail slowly,"Morning. How was the patrol?" He asked.

Branch dipped his head. "Nothing to report. WE couldn't find a sniff of Alpha. Sorry Beta." He bowed his head in shame, then rose again. He nudged the prey towards the farm-dog. "Here go go, it's not much. Falling leaves hasn't been to plentiful yet." He licked his lips, then raced over to the pile himself and grabbed a mouse for himself. HE finished it in a few ravenous bites. "I'm beginning to think the fierce dogs got her."

Beta took a grim deep breath, with a realization of the large amount of possibilities. "Thank you branch, we'll find her, we just need to keep searching." Rolling the situations in his mind, Beta couldn't help but think of the places they haven't checked yet. Appearing back to his normal self, "If they did happen to get her, I know she'll be strong enough to survive until we get there. I would even lead the party myself."

Branch nodded. "I hope so, though standing about isn't going to help us." he fluffed out his fur at a gust of cold wind. "I think I'll go patrol the border with the fierce dogs. Maybe there's a loose scent on wind like this." As he turned, he tipped his head back with a yip. "Want to come? I may need an extra paw. I'm not very big, you know." He gestured to his tiny white form, half Bichon, half Cocker spaniel.

Beta scanned the small dog's appearance, looking for any strengths he would need if he'd ever encounter a fierce dog. "Yea, I'll come with. We should leave at dusk. It'll be harder for them to see the smaller details," he said hoping they could avoid any contact with the fierce dogs. It wouldn't be easy, they would also need something to cover their scent. Beta stood up, and shook off some of the dirt in his pelt. "Eat up, it's going to be a long night, so meet me here at sundown," he said just before padding away to grab himself some food. Somehow, Beta can't help but have everyone else eat first before himself, even the omega at most times.

Branch nodded. Already with a full belly from his last meal, he wasn't hungry. And the excitement for their mission fluttered his belly until he was nauseous. Reluctant to rest, he settled down on a flat stone on the outer edge of the camp. He tried his best to stay awake, but the hot sun, and being full lulled him into sleep. He snored on the hot stone, unaware of his pack-mates exchanging amused glances and snorts.

Beta picked up one of the last of the dead pigeons. Since there wasn't much to choose from, he picked one at random and padded across the clearing toward the woods. Before he left, Beta looked over back to now sleeping Branch. And so, he looked at the small dog with sincerity just before walking out of the clearing into his den to eat.

Branch jolted awake. The sun was just beginning to set, marking the land with golden pinstripes. He sat up, yawned, and shook out his fur. Clouds of dust flew away in puffs, marking the time he'd slept. Stretching each leg in turn, he scanned the clearing for the beta. Spotting the black and white dog retreating to his den, he hopped from the rock, instantly getting colder. "Beta." He gave a small bark of warning before entering. "Sunset isn't long off. We should leave soon."

Beta looked toward Branch, "Yes, you're right." He took a deep breath and padded toward the entrance of the den,"Then let's get moving, we wouldn't want to keep alpha waiting would we?" He exited his den out back into the clearing. Stopping at the entrance, Beta couldn't help but think of the worst case scenario. Hating that thought, he decided to be a little more cautious for tonight's patrol.

Branch fell in behind Beta as they left the clearing. It felt strange, knowing they may find one of the fierce dogs. BRANCH growled lightly under his breath, relishing the thought of ripping open a fierce dogs throat. He felt pity for Alpha and the beta too.
